Join Partners in Parenting (PIP) and The Riveter as they tackle the personal and practical side of working as a new mom or dad.

Jessica Burleson, Executive Director of PIP, will moderate discussion with Jessica Gaffney (Women@Austin and Pro Mama) and Naya Weber, IBCLC (Its More Than Milk Lactation Services) on Baby + Work = Chaos. Discussions will be on the realities of life as a working parent. Participants will leave having developed priorities for their new identity as working parents. And they will have a practical guide for establishing balance and rhythm post-baby.

Building a village for all new parents. Partners in Parenting supports all of Austin’s new parents so they are confident, connected, and have the tools to reach their full potential. Their proven approach connects parents of babies with peers, trained facilitators, and experts.  This will allow them to share the joy and weather the storms of new parenthood together. Herb Alpert & Lani Hall at Paramount Theatre, Presented by KUTX’s Sunday Morning Jazz

A legendary trumpet player, Herb Alpert’s extraordinary musicianship has earned him five #1 hits, nine Grammy Awards, fifteen Gold albums, fourteen Platinum albums. Additionally he has sold over 72 million records. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass propelled his sound into the pop music limelight. Surprisingly at one point outselling the Beatles two to one. In 1966, they achieved the since-unmatched feat of simultaneously having four albums in the Top 10. He continues to perform and tour across the country with his wife, Grammy-winning singer, Lani Hall.

Lani Hall started her singing career in 1966. She first started as the lead singer of Sergio Mendes’s breakthrough group, Brasil ’66. She left behind her city roots in Chicago. And for 5 years, she performed throughout the world and wrote the English lyrics for many of the band’s Brazilian songs. She has the distinction of recording more than 22 albums in three different languages.

“Makin’ Monsters” Art Camp

Head to The Art Garage Austin to participate in the Monster Makers Art Camp. Join them in a slightly messy and definitely quirky day camp all about monsters! Get creative as you paint your own ceramic monster mug- will it have rainbow stripes and polka dots or several eyeballs and spiky fur? Learn about colour theory with the monster-themed canvas painting and join them for when science and art collide in their “slime lab”. Make your own festive slime! (Ages: 6-12)

The Texas Teen Book Festival

The Texas Teen Book Festival

The Texas Teen Book Festival (TTBF) is a one-day event that celebrates the teen reading experience by inviting fans to engage with some of the most popular and critically acclaimed young adult authors in the country.

The TTBF started as the Austin Teen Book Festival in 2009, when librarian Heather Schubert partnered with BookPeople to organize a gathering at Westlake High School. As a result, they hosted 16 authors and 500 attendees. Eventually, the event continued to grow. In 2011-2013, it was sponsored by the Austin Public Library Friends Foundation. In 2014 the Fest was renamed the Texas Teen Book Festival. This is currently a collaboration of the Texas Book Festival, BookPeople, and a dedicated group of librarian volunteers.

This is one of the largest gatherings of its kind anywhere. The annual Fest takes place in the fall on the campus of St. Edward’s University.

The program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Mission

The Texas Teen Book Festival fosters a community effort to celebrate and promote reading and writing by connecting teens to local and award-winning authors, whose writing spans across genres and interest levels.

Goals

– Connect teen readers to local and award-winning authors
– Encourage interaction between aspiring writers and established authors
– Bring together teens who enjoy reading and to encourage struggling readers
– Support, promote, and celebrate recreational teen reading

Moreover, learn more about how sewage pollution is threatening Long Branch, Barton Creek, and waterways across the Hill Country.

Bluegrass and Beer- Keep Sewage Out of Barton Creek is an informational program about the sewage pollution problem and ways to get involved. The program will start at 7 PM. Throughout the event, beer and food is available for purchase.

Who are invited? Those that want to learn more, want to know how to get involved, or just wanting to have a fun Friday night to join them! Let’s work together to protect our Central Texas creeks.

Either way, the River Boy bluegrass band will be here to make sure you have a great time. 100% of the proceeds will support the Austin Humane Society where we offer comprehensive, life-saving animal services, transforming the lives of animals and those who love them!

John Lennon Tribute Show: The 29th Annual John Lennon Birthday Tribute Featuring The #9 Orchestra

This year The #9 Orchestra will be performing their annual tribute to John Lennon at the 3TEN ACL Live on October 9th, for what would have been John’s 79th birthday. It will be the 29th year the band has ‘come together’ for this special show. All the proceeds of this year’s show will be to benefit HAAM, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

The #9 Orchestra

The #9 Orchestra is a group of accomplished musicians from Austin, Texas who ‘come together’ annually to pay tribute to the music of John Lennon and the Beatles. This year, 2019, will mark the 29th year in a row they have celebrated this Austin tradition. They will perform their John Lennon Birthday Tribute on October 9,th John’s birthday, at the 3TEN ACL Live theater in beautiful downtown Austin. The proceeds from this event will go to HAAM, the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

Morgan’s Wonderland Inspiration Awards are dedicated to:
– Increasing awareness of the contributions of Texas businesses providing accessibility for people living with a disability.
– Encouraging more corporations and business owners to become engaged in ensuring the accessibility of their property.
– Increasing support for those who benefit by the assistance of a Service Dog.

In 2016, Service Dogs, Inc. created the Awards to create solutions to help solve some of the problems that our disabled community members face on a daily basis.

Service Dogs, Inc. is a nonprofit that adopts dogs from animal shelters and takes career change dogs from Guide Dogs for the Blind. SDI builds better lives for Texans overcoming challenges through partnerships with custom trained Assistance Dogs, provided free-of-charge. We train Mobility Service dogs, Hearing dogs, and Facility dogs. The cost of care and training for each dog is approximately $50,000. Your donation enables us to provide the dogs and customized training to our clients free-of-charge!
