Austin Museum Day is Sunday, September 22, 2019.

Enjoy free access to exhibits and activities at Austin-area museums!

Organized by the Austin Museum Partnership, this special day features free exhibitions and activities at participating Austin-area museums and cultural sites.

The Austin Museum Partnership (AMP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. AMP promotes and facilitates collaboration within the museum community. Notably, for the benefit of our museums and the community at large. Since 1998, the Austin Museum Partnership has coordinated Austin Museum Day. Importantly, this community event offers free admission and includes special programs and activities at museums and cultural institutions across the area.

Austin Museum Day is held on the penultimate (second to last) Sunday of the month of September.

Fall Pecan Street Festival

Fall Pecan Street Festival

Date: 9/21 – 9/22 | Time: 11AM – 10PM | Location: Sixth Street Austin 

Two weekends a year (early May, late Sept.), Sixth Street and surrounds are transformed into The Pecan Street Festival.

Featuring over 300 artists and original artisans, three stages of live music, a wide variety of ethnic and regional food, children’s workshops, a petting zoo, magic shows, title sponsors, interactive installments, and so much more. Certainly, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. Bring the family, bring the dog, love Austin, love Art.

Like Austin itself, Pecan Street Festival attendees are diverse. Some come to buy art, others come for the food or the music. More importantly, they all come to take part in a tradition that is 100% Austin and has been known for more than three decades as a great way to spend a weekend. The festival has been managed by Special Events Live since 2006.

– Nearly 50 of Austin’s top musical acts, from up-and-comers to renowned veterans, perform on three stages. The stages are located on Trinity, Neches and Red River streets.

– Thirty food vendors located throughout the festival. They offer both indulgent and healthy options from crepes, funnel cakes and regional cuisine, to smoothies and fresh squeezed lemonade.

– Kid-friendly activities include rides, a petting zoo, face-painting, interactive workshops, street magicians and more.

BYOD Austin Bark in Zilker Park Pawty

BYOD Austin Bark in Zilker Park Pawty is a laid back dog meet up for belly scratches and puppy kisses.

🎈Come with or without your pups! During the pawty, you’ll be able to sniff out and play with the humans and pups behind BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog). *Sniff out the BYOD balloons to find us!

🐶 This park is free and open to the public! ALL pups are welcome, including non-BYOD members! However, BYOD members will enjoy a take home doggy bag!

🐶🐶 Dog handlers may bring multiple pups to this meet up!

Meet up rules:

1. 🚫 RETRACTABLE LEASHES ARE NOT PERMITTED!
2. All dogs must be spayed or neutered. NO exceptions.
3. No pups allowed to pawty under 4 months of age.
4. Dogs must be current on vaccinations including Parvo Virus, Distemper, Rabies and Bordatella.
5. No outside human food, dog food, treats, toys, or chews allowed.

If you bring a dog or multiple pups to this event, you agree that they are social, well behaved, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. BYOD is not responsible for incidents that would arise.

BYOD phoDOGrapher will be present.

Please note, the park is a public space that welcomes all dog owners and pups. BYOD members are welcome to bring pawty animals and furiends to this event!

We recommend non-retractable leashes due to safety!

👦👧Children must be fully supervised with a 21+ adult at all times!

Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the US.

It specializes in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world. The festival is dedicated to championing challenging and thought-provoking cinema. It celebrates new voices and new stories from around the world and supporting new filmmakers. The work with various other festivals, archives, cinematheques and individuals to spotlight lesser-known film regions, luminaries and more in an ongoing effort to expand the general knowledge and appreciation of cinema. They are committed to supporting film in its most provocative, ground-breaking and underseen forms. Therefore they give the audience a chance to find new favorites and future genre classics.

History

Each year they bring together fans, guests, industry, press and others in an inclusive and fun environment for a week-long celebration of film in all its forms through carefully curated screenings and events, both in and outside of the theaters.

Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Date Night @ The DAC: Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

“Shibori” is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo. Sit with local fiber artists and create your very own unique fabric art. Learn how to create a traditional Sekka pattern, or surrealistic spirals by using techniques such as pleating and mooring. Not only will you leave with a pretty handkerchief (or two), you will feel good because you are a maker of Shibori.

Each participant will leave with two handkerchiefs. Participants are allowed to bring one small personal item (such as a shirt or scarf) to dye if they wish. Space is limited but a waitlist is available!

Please dress in clothing that you do not mind getting messy.

Parking at the DAC is free but limited. There is parking available at the Palmer Event Center. In addition there are parking options available off Riverside Drive and Lee Barton Drive. We also want to encourage all our friends to drive safely, or better yet catch a taxi, ride share, bus or bike!

Neil Schmidt presents a class on “Preserving the Harvest.”

Now that you’ve become a successful organic gardener, what do you do with all that bounty? Neil will demonstrate the basics of freezing, drying, and especially canning, so that we can properly preserve our produce. Even if you are adept in the kitchen, Neil will have suggestions that can make the process easier, safer, tastier, and more successful.

The Natural Gardener is open seven days a week. Their location is at 8648 Old Bee Caves Rd, Austin, TX 78735.

The Natural Gardener was established in 1993, and is known for its pioneering work in organic gardening and sustainable living.

Run, walk or fly to the 10th annual CASA Superhero Run 5K and Kids 1K .

You can be a superhero for children who’ve been abused or neglected. You choose what kind of superhero you will be: register for the race, donate to kids, fund-raise for the cause, or do all 3!

The CASA Superhero Run is the opening race for the 2019-20 Austin Distance Challenge. So kick off a year of super-speed and fitness with our chip-timed 5K!

Race day will feature:

 *the annual superhero costume contest
 * an obstacle course to test your super strength and agility
* special superhero guest appearances
* villains to defeat
* bounce houses
* tasty food
* amazing photo ops

And lots of fun family activities.

CASA speaks up for children who’ve been abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system. The CASA Superhero Run helps nearly 2,700 children through the CASA programs.

The CASA programs of the Greater Austin Area is serving Travis, Williamson, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe & Hays Counties.

Austin Margarita Festival returns to the Austin American-Statesman this 2019!

The festival will be participated by the city’s best margarita makers competing for a Texas-style bragging rights to create an atmosphere unlike any other.

Experience over 19 different margarita flavors, live bands, DJs, an expansive tequila tasting station, and more in downtown Austin; where great drinks are truly appreciated.

Austin has the reputation for being the Live Music Capital of the World. Of course, you could only think of one thing that might add to that status – MARGARITAS!!  This year, the Austin Margarita Festival will grace the downtown area. This just across the Congress Avenue Bridge, on the Austin American-Statesman’s riverside property. 

The 21+, one day event is a reflection of Austin’s plethora of eclectic styles and artistry. In fact, only this diversity shows through in the 20+ Margarita Flavors, including the Bourbon St. Hurricane, Grapefruit Groupie and Jalapeno Pepper.  Drinks served frozen or on the rocks. The endless choice of mouthwatering margaritas can be enjoyed against the backdrop of Austin’s beautiful skyline. 

Definitely adding to the cool vibe of this Margarita Mecca, you can sip to the sounds of live bands and DJs, and to the complement of great food!  You’ve heard the tagline, “Keep Austin Weird”.  Well, Austinites, on September 14th, 2019, you’ll hear a new adage – “Keep the margaritas flowin’ and the good times goin’!”

Movies in the Park is a series of free films brought to you by Austin Parks Foundation. We’ll be visiting nine different parks this year. So head out to grab some food from our food trucks . Enjoy a night under the stars and in front of the screen.

Blankets, chairs, and on leash dogs are welcome! Styrofoam, glass, and alcohol are not permitted. Smoking is prohibited in the park, per city law.
