AustinUP 50+ in ATX Job Fair – JCC 2019

The Austin area has long been one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. What most people don’t know is that while our overall population grew nearly 40% between 2000 and 2010, the number of us over the age of 55 grew by 80%. Today, the Austin area has the nation’s fastest-growing population of people between 55 and 64, and the second fastest-growing population of people 65 and over.

And many of these newcomers are looking for work.

AustinUP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is hosting a series of job fairs in 2019 to match available job opportunities with workers who are 50+. The free events will be held in different locations to help potential employees connect with employers located in or close to their neighborhoods. By creating these job fair opportunities, AustinUP is working to enlighten business leaders and human resource directors about the strengths of older adults in the workplace, as well as the value of a multigenerational workforce. 2019 Zilker Relays

Zilker Relays September 2019

Date: 09/06 | Time: 6:30 – 10 PM | Location: Zilker Park

Zilker Relays
3 + 1 = Fun!

The Zilker Relays is a 10-mile relay with teams comprised of 4 runners. Each participant runs a 2.5 mile loop from one central festival/transition area. The team concept of the Zilker Relays is not unique, but the combination of a relay, festival home base, drinks and music, make this experience a favorite for runners of all calibers and ages. You don’t have to train like a marathoner for this one. All you have to do is be willing to run or jog 2.5 miles, enjoy live music and great food and get 3 of your siblings/kids/buddies/colleagues to come join you for this one of a kind running experience.

In addition to a great run, participants are treated to live music, dinner and a beer garden after the event. We like to reinforce the “fun factor” that running can bring into a person’s life. Running doesn’t always have to be a solo effort and racing doesn’t always have to be focused on individual achievement.

They have a great kids relay that allows for the event to make for a family outing.
