Prospective members are welcome! Help Preservation Austin kick off the 2019 Membership Drive by bringing a preservation-loving friend. Volunteers will be happy to help them join.

Austin Restaurant Weeks

Austin Restaurant Weeks

Date: 08/15 to 09/02 | Location:  Austin, TX

Austin Restaurant Weeks 2019 runs from August 15 through September 2.

Hunger is a serious issue here in Central Texas, where 1 in 6 of our neighbors can’t be sure where their next meal will come from.

You can help by dining out at participating restaurants during Austin Restaurant Weeks, a two-week-long dining extravaganza featuring specially-priced lunches, dinners and cocktails at restaurants throughout the greater Austin area. A portion of the price of each meal comes directly to the Central Texas Food Bank, which can turn each dollar into four meals for our neighbors in need.

Austin Restaurant Weeks is a new annual event that celebrates fine dining at an affordable price, while helping fight hunger in Central Texas. Participating restaurants offer prix fixe menus specially priced for lunch and/or dinner and donate a portion of proceeds from each meal to the Central Texas Food Bank. Some establishments may have cocktail and beer options that also result in donations to the Food Bank.

Workshop: Food Preservation 101

Date: 08/10 | Time: 12:00 – 1:00 PM | Location: Bullock Texas State History Museum

Workshop: Food Preservation 101 – Discover the ins and outs of food preservation, then try it for yourself.

During WWI, the United States government promoted home gardening to help ease food rationing during the war effort. As “victory gardens” became popular, food preservation became essential to make the most of their harvests. In conjunction with the exhibit WWI America, join experts Sonia Coyle and Elsie Lacy who are County Extension Agents-Family and Community Health from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for a workshop on the essentials of food preservation. With food preservation 101, et the basics on different techniques, then take what you’ve learned and try it at home.

The Bullock Texas State History Museum is a division of the Texas State Preservation Board. Additional support for educational programming provided by the Texas State History Museum Foundation.
