Date Night @ The DAC: Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Date: 09/18 | Time: 7 PM – 9 PM | Location: Dougherty Arts Center

Date Night @ The DAC: Shibori Indigo Dyeing Workshop

“Shibori” is a Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves folding, twisting or bunching cloth and binding it, then dyeing it in indigo. Sit with local fiber artists and create your very own unique fabric art. Learn how to create a traditional Sekka pattern, or surrealistic spirals by using techniques such as pleating and mooring. Not only will you leave with a pretty handkerchief (or two), you will feel good because you are a maker of Shibori.

Each participant will leave with two handkerchiefs. Participants are allowed to bring one small personal item (such as a shirt or scarf) to dye if they wish. Space is limited but a waitlist is available!

Please dress in clothing that you do not mind getting messy.

Parking at the DAC is free but limited. There is parking available at the Palmer Event Center. In addition there are parking options available off Riverside Drive and Lee Barton Drive. We also want to encourage all our friends to drive safely, or better yet catch a taxi, ride share, bus or bike!

AustinUP 50+ in ATX Job Fair – JCC 2019

The Austin area has long been one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. What most people don’t know is that while our overall population grew nearly 40% between 2000 and 2010, the number of us over the age of 55 grew by 80%. Today, the Austin area has the nation’s fastest-growing population of people between 55 and 64, and the second fastest-growing population of people 65 and over.

And many of these newcomers are looking for work.

AustinUP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is hosting a series of job fairs in 2019 to match available job opportunities with workers who are 50+. The free events will be held in different locations to help potential employees connect with employers located in or close to their neighborhoods. By creating these job fair opportunities, AustinUP is working to enlighten business leaders and human resource directors about the strengths of older adults in the workplace, as well as the value of a multigenerational workforce.
